About EKL

What is EKL

After finishing my degree in industrial design, I jumped into the marine and construction industry, where I got my hands dirty with fit-out, service, fabrication, welding, design, and customer service. It was a great way to learn the ropes and figure out what goes into making high-quality products.

After a few years, I started thinking, “Why not do this for myself?” So, armed with a welder, grinder, and a bench in my garage, I began working on my friends’ cars and 4WDs. What started as a fun side gig quickly turned into a real passion for creating custom solutions.

Now, I’m based in Auckland’s Kumeu, running a small but mighty workshop where we’re all about crafting top-notch, New Zealand-made products. I love the challenge of bringing unique ideas to life and working with local materials to ensure everything we make is built to last. Whether it’s custom automotive parts or something a little bit different.

Personal Projects

1978 Leyland mini

This Mini was destined for the scrapyard before it found a new home in my driveway. I stripped it down to a bare shell, tackled some minor rust, and gave it a fresh two-tone paint job. Then came the big (for a Mini) upgrade—a 1310cc block. Believe it or not, this was my daily driver throughout university. This little project is what sparked my obsession with car modifications.

1984 Land cruiser

When I finally admitted the Mini wasn’t the most practical choice, the next logical step was… a rusty old Landcruiser. After patching up the rust, it became clear it needed a full overhaul - including a new factory Toyota roof skin, quarter panels from a donor vehicle, and fresh doors. The reliable old 2H engine was upgraded with a 12mm TD42 injector pump and a custom hot-side to fit a high-flow 80-series turbo. With twin Airlockers, this Landcruiser isn’t just a capable off-roader—it’s my daily driver.
